Oklahoma City Public Golf

Oklahoma City has one of the strongest municipal golf systems in the metro, and it's a great starting point for casual golfers, beginners, weekly regulars, families, retirees, and anyone relocating here who wants to know where the locals actually play.

The city runs four 18-hole municipal courses: Lake Hefner, Lincoln Park, Earlywine, and Trosper plus James E. Stewart, a nine-hole option built for shorter rounds and newer golfers.

At the time of writing, OKC Golf lists Lincoln Park, Earlywine, Trosper, and Lake Hefner at $33 for 18 holes, $27.50 for twilight, $21.25 for dusk, and $14 for sunset play, with a senior weekday rate of $20.25 and a junior rate of $9.25. Cart rental is extra at all four. James E. Stewart is priced separately at $14.50 for nine holes, $10.75 for seniors, and $5.75 for juniors.

KickingBird Golf Club

Oak Tree National and Oak Tree Country Club

Oak Tree is one of the first names that comes up when people talk about serious golf in Edmond. This isn't beginner-budget public golf, it's part of Edmond's high-end golf identity, with a history of hosting major championships.

Oklahoma City Private Clubs and Country Club Golf

Gaillardia Country Club

The neighborhoods surrounding Gaillardia match that same feel: gated, upscale, and designed for buyers who want club life woven into everyday living.

Quail Creek Golf and Country Club

Twin Hills Golf and Country Club

Sitting in northeast Oklahoma City, Twin Hills carries a long-standing, traditional private-golf identity in the metro.

East Metro Golf: Midwest City, Choctaw, Harrah, Spencer, Nicoma Park, and Tinker-Area Living

The east side of the metro has a different personality when it comes to golf, more affordable, more practical, and more approachable. It's especially valuable for Tinker Air Force Base families, Midwest City residents, and homeowners in Choctaw, Harrah, Jones, Spencer, Nicoma Park, and Arcadia who want a place to play without crossing town.

I'll be honest with you here Harrah, Jones, Nicoma Park, Spencer, and Arcadia don't have their own dedicated golf courses inside city limits. What they have instead is easy access to Choctaw Creek and the Midwest City courses, usually within a short, easy drive. For a lot of the families I work with in these small towns, that's actually part of the appeal you get the quiet, rural, small-town feel at home, with golf just a few minutes away when you want it.

Hidden Creek Family Golf Course

Hidden Creek is an executive-length nine-hole course built in 1957, and the City of Midwest City describes it as especially well-suited for seniors, juniors, beginners, and easy walking rounds. At roughly 1,900 yards, it's far less intimidating than a full championship layout, which makes it one of my favorite recommendations for families introducing kids to the game.

Choctaw Creek Golf Course

Choctaw Creek is the heart of east-metro golf, and it's the closest full course for so many of the small towns I love working in Choctaw, Harrah, Jones, Spencer, and Nicoma Park. Yukon, Mustang, Piedmont, and the West Metro

Yukon, Mustang, and Piedmont have all grown quickly, and while not every one of these towns has a course inside its own city limits, golfers here have solid access to Yukon golf, NW OKC courses, and private options within a comfortable drive.

Surrey Hills Golf Club

Golf Access Near Mustang

Mustang doesn't have the same concentration of well-known courses inside city limits as some of its neighbors, but residents are within a reasonable drive of Earlywine in south OKC, Surrey Hills in Yukon, the OKC municipal courses, and Newcastle/Blanchard-area options depending on exactly where in Mustang you land.

For most Mustang buyers I work with, golf ends up being about access within fifteen to thirty minutes rather than living right around a course. Mustang tends to be chosen for schools, newer construction, and west-metro convenience, golf can absolutely still be part of the lifestyle, it's just a short drive rather than a walk out the back door.

Golf Access Near Piedmont

Piedmont buyers are often drawn here for space, newer homes, good schools, and a quieter northwest-metro pace. Golf access typically runs through Yukon, Edmond, or NW OKC depending on exactly where the home sits. A home on the south or east side of Piedmont may feel closer to NW OKC courses like Lake Hefner, while a home nearer Yukon puts Surrey Hills within easy reach. Norman and the South Metro

Norman carries one of the strongest golf identities in the metro, with public golf, university golf, and private clubs all represented. It also serves buyers in Moore, Noble, Blanchard, and Newcastle depending on how far they're willing to drive.

The City of Norman describes Westwood as a premier public course with a recently renovated 6,200-yard layout, wide tree-lined fairways, gently contoured greens, twenty bunkers, and several water hazards. The Turn Grill sits right inside the course for a bite after your round.

This is one of the premier golf experiences in the entire metro, with real history — the land traces back to a U.S. Navy recreational facility in the 1940s — and a course that has hosted major amateur and collegiate championships. It carries a polished, university-affiliated, championship feel that's genuinely different from a municipal round.

Public play is available on a semi-private basis, so call ahead for tee times. Visit Norman lists daily green fees for public play at $79 per player plus a $17 cart fee, though this can vary by source, so I'd confirm directly.

Membership categories publicly listed include:

• Legacy: $525/month single, $600/month family, plus tax and a required gift contribution

• University: $455/month single, $515/month family, plus tax, tied to Sooner Club involvement

• Young Executive (under 40): $415/month single, $460/month family, plus tax

National and collegiate membership options are also available.

Best for: OU-connected golfers, serious players, buyers wanting championship-caliber golf on the south side of the metro.

The Trails Golf Club

For families, the decision is rarely about golf alone it's about the pool time, the holiday brunches, the kids' events, the tennis and pickleball, and the sense of community that comes with it. That can be genuinely worth it. But only if you know you'll actually use it.

You can enjoy a quiet, relaxed round out in Choctaw. You can experience real championship golf at Jimmie Austin. You can build an entire social calendar around a private club if that fits your family.

You can do all of it in a metro where golf still feels connected to community, not just status.

There's room here for the fancy and the simple. The country club and the municipal course. The serious competitor and the total beginner. The client outing and the family round. The twilight deal and the luxury membership.

The best course was never the most expensive one. It's the one that actually fits your life.
